As part of the ongoing stormwater drainage maintenance across Karachi, desilting work was recently carried out at the Garibabad Underpass. However, during this process, a cover along the centreline of the road was removed and not replaced, leaving a large, exposed hole directly in the path of fast-moving traffic.
Although the desilting operation was completed more than three days ago, the hole remains unaddressed. This negligence poses a significant risk to motorists, especially at night or in poor weather when visibility is low.
I urge the relevant municipal and road maintenance authorities to take immediate action and ensure the duct is properly and securely covered. Swift intervention is critical to prevent a potentially serious accident and to safeguard the lives of daily commuters.
